Corinthia has always been a region associated with cultivation. The wealth of natural resources in the region combined with the Corinthians’ high productivity and creativity, managed to transform the region into one of Greece’s strategic points. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the modern inhabitants of Corinthia, worthy successors of this production activity, have managed to take full advantage of all opportunities offered by this land. The unique microclimate favors high quality products such as grapes, and more specifically Corinthian currants and soultaninas, which are internationally renowned.
The Corinthian soultanina is produced in accordance with EU regulations and requirements and it is a safe and high quality product that thousands of consumers trust daily, both in the domestic and international markets.

Soultanina history

A very old vine variety of oriental origin, possibly originating in Caucasus. In Greece, it was first cultivated in the region of Nafplio in 1838. Today, the cultivation occupies an area of 170,000 square meters in our country, with main cultivation centers located in northeastern Peloponnese and Crete.

Cultivation

The cultivation of the grapes (table soultanina) takes place mainly in Corinthia by experienced producers. To address any problems that may arise during the cultivation (e.g., adverse weather conditions) but also for the safety of the final product (e.g., the agrochemical used) producers cooperate with our company’s arboriculturalist, who periodically organizes seminars – trainings for small groups of producers each time, guiding producers through good agricultural practices in order to ensure final products of top quality and safety.

Harvest

The harvest of the product is done after the approval of the harvest supervisor, who is constantly aiming for products of best quality, and with the best safety practices. The harvest of the product from the parcels is carried out by experienced professionals as the harvest process plays a major role in the cultivation process as far as the final product quality is concerned. It always takes place after measuring and accepting required sugar grades (brix). The harvest is carried out using special tools (scissors) which are disinfected before each use. The transport of the product is conducted using our company’s special plastic placement and transportation media.

Receipt

Our company’s tracing system is electronically monitored by specialized software. This provides immediate information regarding which lots of raw materials come from which suppliers, what happens during the production of these lots and which final product lots are delivered to which customers. This process starts with the arrival of a product lot in our facilities. The receipt of goods is carried out in a special receipt area for raw materials, where the person supervising the receipt places a label with the unique lot code (lot number) which is generated by special software based on the data entered by the food safety supervisor. Each product is visually assessed upon receipt (quality control) by the person supervising the receipt. Then the product is either stored or passed on to the production line.

Production (packaging)

The production (selection - packaging) is carried out in our company’s production area under the most appropriate health and safety conditions for both the product and our employees (e.g., room temperature production is constantly set at 20° C). Our workforce consists of trained packagers who work under the constant supervision of the production manager and the quality auditor. During packaging, grapes are placed in packages as per each client’s requirements.

Maintenance

Depending its form, final or raw, the product is placed in different cooling chambers with the required conditions (temperature, humidity), which are electronically monitored by specialized software, 24 hours per day. The electronic monitoring of the cooling chamber conditions is able to warn the security supervisor about any deviations from the required predefined storage conditions. At regular intervals, cooling chambers are checked using a standard thermometer in order to check the accuracy of their indications.

Transportation

The transportation of our products to our customers is carried out by lorry-refrigerators, which are cleaned and disinfected before each loading and which have the ability to maintain suitable conditions for the products they carry throughout the entire transport.

Certifications

Our company has established and applied a food quality and security system in accordance with the BRC standard, a food safety system in accordance with the ISO 22000 standard and it is tested annually by the food safety system “Agrosecurity” which is a requirement for a specific client.
